Let me take a moment to brag on behalf of my boyfriend.  He got an A in his graduate school class this semester.  It was Digital Signal Processing (for a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering), and the course topics are as follows:

• Transform Analysis of Discrete-Time Systems
• Discrete-Time Processing of Continuous-Time Signals
• Digital Filter Structures and Quantization Effects
• Digital Filter Design
• Multirate Processing
• Spectral Analysis Using the DFT
• The Fast Fourier Transform

I would have gotten an F--.  I am so proud of him; he worked really hard :-)

The memos on this website make me ill.  This is what George W. Bush's (who I voted for) DOJ was 'authorizing.'

It seems as though the internet, by which I mean the people on the internet, is on edge recently. I find this funny.

Remember what Bill S. Preston, Esquire said, "Be excellent to each other." Also remember what Ted Logan said, "Party on, dudes!"

2009 [Jan. 5th, 2009|02:27 pm]
So I don't really do resolutions. That being said, I have bought a $130 pair of running shoes and begin running tonight. My goal is running the Army 10 Miler on 10/4/09. I have a 'training regimen' that will have me running a 10k in March (6.2 miles), which should leave me more than able to do 10 miles in October. I used to run a LOT and liked it a lot, so I'm hoping this new program makes me happy. I'm training somewhat slowly because of my knee.

In related news, I'm going to try to eat better (ie not one big meal a day) to give my body the nutrients it needs to run all the time. My goal is not to lose weight, but I'm guessing if I am running all the time and eating on a somewhat regular basis, some weight will come off. Once I see if the 10 miler has killed me, I plan on running the Marine Corps Marathon in October of 2010.

Um... so I'm over at my boyfriend's house (cat watching for his roommates) while he and his roommates are out of town.  I am cleaning his room up for him.  How sick does this make me?

Facts that bear mentioning:
1. He knows that I really want to clean his room hardcore and mostly just seems amused.
2. I am turning into my mother.  AHHHHHHHHHHH.
3. I have nothing else to do today?
4. If for no other reason than I like to clean, his roommates love me.

Does anyone have a cape-ish thing that is anything like Maude Lebowski wears in the Big Lebowski?  I have the boots (and the hair, sort of).  In case you need more explanation, I want to be Maude Lebowski for Halloween :) For reference, she's on the left:

[mood | loved]

It's a combination of a lot of things, but right now I am so full of love that I can't help but let it boil over.

To each of you reading this: I love you.

You all enrich my life immeasurably.  I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends, family, and acquaintances.

Love each other, okay?  That's all that's really important.

Okay, so I got a 100 on my math test.  So maybe the universe is cutting me a break ;)

Also, if Sarah Palin was my mom, my name would be Flex Gunship Palin.

My good friend's father is having surgery tomorrow to help him breathe (he has stage IVb squamous cell carcinoma on his esophagus lining that has metastasized).  It is not clear if he is strong enough to withstand the procedure; however, it is the only option.

Please send positive thoughts, prayers, good karma, good energy, what have you in the direction of Bethesda tomorrow while my friend's dad undergoes this difficult surgery.

Edited:  The surgery is now on Friday, to give him time to stabilize.  Please keep those thoughts going.

Sleep study scheduled for 9/14.  Apnea is a contender... but wouldn't explain all symptoms.

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

[mood | indifferent]
[music |March of Time - Helloween]

So yesterday, I hit 2 weeks without a cigarette.  I don't "feel better."  People always seem to say when they quit that they have more energy, can breathe better, etc, etc, but I have notice none of that.  I haven't been hit with overwhelming urges to smoke or anything like that.  I mostly have been irritable.  I really hope this general annoyance at the world and my place in it goes away.  I haven't had any alcohol (actually, I had one redheaded slut) since this process began, but I know that's going to come and it's definitely a trigger.  I have been to the bar, where people were chain smoking all around me, but I didn't smoke.  I was on Chantix for a little while, but I stopped taking it a week or so ago.  And I'm still doing okay.  I guess this is just a "State of the Katie."  She's not smoking and she's irritable.

My dad. [Jul. 29th, 2008|11:28 am]
My dad fell off his bicycle last night and ended up in the ER.  He has a first degree acromioclavicular dislocation, which means his shoulder seperated from his collarbone.  They just let that heal on its own with the help of vicodin.  He looks like an enormous Napoleon with his sling.  My family has a long (bad) history with self-propelled wheeled things.  I fell off a bike when I was 6 or 7 and had a bunch of stitches.  My little brother had an awful razor scooter accident (at the age of 16 - he went head first into a curb).  And now my dad had this accident.  Anyhow, healing thoughts for my dad are appreciated!
